St. Bridget Catholic School Performs SpongeBob the Musical: Youth Edition to 4,000 Community Members
St. Bridget Catholic School in Brooklin put on performances of SpongeBob the Musical: Youth Edition from April 29 – May 5, 2025. Over these five days, students performed two matinees each day, and two evening shows, totalling 12 shows. Over the 12 shows, there were 4,000 community members who attended the performances! Students in Grade 4-8 were in the cast and crew. They began rehearsing on first day of school in September of 2024, and practiced during recesses, lunch hours, after school, and even some Saturdays between the span of September 2024 to April 2025 to prepare for the shows. The students were the actors, dancers, singers, set crew, sound technicians, lighting crew, and created all the sets, props, and special effects.
St. Bridget Catholic School has put on an annual musical theatre performance for over 18 years and has a rich history in the arts. Many people were involved in making these performances possible, including: former students (currently in secondary school) who helped with acting, choreography, sound, and prop construction; former parents of the school who printed off the sets and tickets; families and community members who attended the two evening performances; and our teachers who dedicated their time to rehearse with the students.
Special thanks go to Mr. Pugelj, Mrs. Anderson, Mrs. Gisana-Gay, Mrs. Lawrence, and Madame DaSilva for all their hard work towards creating a production that left an impact on the students; Mr. Bell, for his support towards the arts in our school; Mrs. Morrison, for her organizing of all our behind the scenes work that people don’t see; our school community, for supporting our production; to the students, for their hard work and dedication, and for being willing to take risks to showcase their talents to everyone.
" To watch the growth that these students have made from the beginning of September to now is unbelievable. Many of them took risks and challenged themselves to do things they were not used to. Their dedication, willing to try new things, and focus allowed them to see their skills and talents grow. It is amazing to watch these kids take something small, and watch it grow into amazing production. It truly was a full community building, as students across many grade levels came together to encourage and help each other create a final product. This sense of community in all aspects of the show, on and off stage, allowed them to present a production they could be proud of. They have continued to build the Arts at St. Bridget through their minds, heart and soul for others to follow. Thank you all for everything you have done; you should be so proud of what you've created." – Mr. Pugelj, Grade 7 Teacher, St. Bridget Catholic School
“It has been another successful school play at St. Bridget. Congratulations to all the student cast and crew on an amazing performance. You are so talented and should be very proud of your accomplishments as a group. I want to thank the staff and volunteers for all their dedication and efforts. Our whole community has been inspired by your positive enthusiasm, organization and creative art direction. Congratulations everyone!” – Mr. Bell, Principal, St. Bridget Catholic School
